Blues have appointed Matt Doyle as the new Head of Academy Goalkeeping.

The 28-year-old has joined from Barnet where he oversaw every goalkeeping programme at the club from First Team, Academy and Ladies.

Doyle began his coaching career with the Bees in 2009, as Head of Academy Goalkeeping. He worked with all age groups as well as the senior players under various managers such as Paul Fairclough, Lawrie Sanchez and Martin Allen.

In 2012 he moved to Stoke City, working with the Under-8 to Under-23 goalkeepers. After four years Doyle left to seek a fresh challenge.

That took him to Malaysia and the First Team goalkeeping role with Super League with club Penang FA, working under Head Coach, Ashley Westwood.

In May 2017 Doyle returned to England for his second spell at Barnet, which came to a close this month with his Blues appointment.

Kristjaan Speakman, Blues Academy Manager, commented: "We undertook a rigorous recruitment process to identify the right person who we believe has the ability to move the goalkeeping programme forward.

"In Matt we have someone with a desire to develop and improve. He is committed to developing our young goalkeepers and has already moved his family to the area which I think reflects his enthusiasm for the role”.
