The game also saw two young Blues players make their Under-18s league debuts - with Lewis Landers in goal and Nick Kanina at right-back.
Lead Professional Development Coach Steve Spooner admitted that on the balance of play and chances created that Blues were possibly fortunate to claim a point.
But he felt his players defended well and showed a level of maturity to stay in the game.
"The first-half ebbed and flowed we were patient with our possession, although at times I didn't think we moved the ball quick enough in the final third," said Spooner.
"We had quite a young side out and we struggled to stay with Crewe's strength and power in the second-half.
"Although we created some good chances of our own, we came under some real pressure and they (Crewe) arguably deserved to win.
"But despite us having several young players in the side, they showed a real level of maturity and we defended very well.
"The more experienced players marshalled them well and encouraged them, which was nice to see."
Turning to the two debutants Landers and Kanina, Spooner said the duo impressed in their first starts at the next age group up.
"Lewis Landers did ever so well,” he added.
"His decision-making was good, and he made some very good saves.
"And Nick Kanina at right-back, came in and acquitted himself very well."
