Reaction: Blues 2 West Brom 3

Although West Brom got the points today it doesn't hide the fact that I saw a Birmingham side putting their heart and their soul into the game and providing such a good derby

Pep Clotet's comments after seeing his side narrowly lose out to West Brom at the St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium.

Pep Clotet asked if he felt hard done having seen his team take the lead twice and still lose the game…
“It’s hard. But let me start by congratulating West Brom for the result and for the good game that both teams had because it was a fantastic derby. When it comes to the game, I'm a bit disappointed but there are so many positives that we can take from it. We managed to get ahead a couple of times in a game that we knew was going to be very difficult against a good West Brom side. Thery are a lot of points clear of the third-place team. We had to prepare for it very well especially coming from that game ion Wednesday (against QPR) that we were not happy with and we wanted to bounce back. We tried to cut out as many differences between the two teams as possible because we knew we could not fight West Brom on the possession, we needed to find other ways and maximise our own strengths and abilities."

On the number of attempts his side created…
“We wanted to try to get as many shots on target as possible. We had 16 shots in the game and six on target and we scored two and possibly deserved to score another one. Kristian (Pedersen) had a clear chance and (Jeremie) Bela at the end as well. They (West Brom) had three shots on target and they scored three goals. But I did see a Birmingham side that played for the shirt and played for the fans and bounced back from Wednesday, so I'm proud of the lads and their efforts. There were a lot of positives."

On the impact that West Brom sub Charlie Austin had with his two goals…
“The last few games Austin has been very effective. When it came to the goalscoring department today, Austin made a difference when he came on because he had that cutting edge. But I think our players today put everything they had into trying to get the points and I think they deserved to get a point.”

On Blues going head to head with a West Brom side pushing hard for promotion…
“Although West Brom got the points today it doesn't hide the fact that I saw a Birmingham side putting their heart and their soul into the game and providing such a good derby. We didn't get the points, but we are continuing to take huge steps forward and that's the mentality we want to keep having. We have another game next week and we need to keep repeating that.”
