REACTION: Portsmouth 3 Blues 0

It's very worth it. The fact that there was a short pain in this game (the result) and we're obviously we're not happy we didn't win, it' a long gain in the future. That makes me proud.

Pep Clotet

Pep Clotet spoke to the media after Tuesday night's Carabao Cup First Round exit at the hands of League One outfit Portsmouth...

Pep Clotet on the result and performance of his side...

"Any chance we can rest players who played on the Saturday and give an opportunity to Academy players - what our future is as a Club - then that's good. It's very worth it. The fact that there was a short pain in this game (the result) and we're obviously we're not happy we didn't win, it' a long gain in the future. That makes me proud. These players have their up and downs. You saw that in the game. We started very brightly, we were a bit soft with the goals. But that comes with experience, with games like these. The fact they could experience this for real is another very important step in their development."

Pep Clotet on handing Jude Bellingham his debut...

"I hope that the headlines are that he made the history, not me selecting him, and we don't look at the result as much, he is developing well and will could make a massive difference for us in the future of this Club. He got the chance to show off his talent tonight and he deserved that chance, he has been working very hard in pre-season and in training, he has been getting used to the pro players. He didn't disappoint, he grew during the game and he paid a bit of a physical price in the end, but has a great future ahead of him, and he can be proud of tonight."

Pep Clotet on the withdrawal of Isaac Vassell shortly before kick-off...

"Isaac travelled with us and is close to have some movements (elsewhere), the Club notified me of that (just before the pre-match meeting) so we decided to take the option in taking him out of the matchday squad."

Pep Clotet on new signing Alvaro Gimenez and other potential signings...

"Alvaro is one of the players that will help us up top, he had a terrific season last season and I think he will team up well with Jukey (Lukas Jutkiewicz), he is a player that is good when he gets in and around the box, it is a good addition for us. The Club is trying its best to improve the squad and bring in for the positions we need. Those positions have been identified and I am very positive that we can do what we need to before the transfer window closes."

Pep Clotet asked if he had any regrets about making nine changes, given the scoreline...

"No, absolutely not. I focus on the positives. The fact we did it not only helped the players out there, but the players for Saturday, with their programme this week. We have bright, young talent coming through and they need opportunity. The fans, we all thanked them at the end of the game. They are with us. They massively support the team and they shared a moment as well to see the young players coming through for themselves, that unites us."
