Garry Monk talks to the media after today's game...

Garry Monk on the result...

“I feel totally hard done by, we were the best team on the pitch today, we totally controlled them. I can’t remember them having a meaningful shot on our goal. The frustrating part of that performance was the chances we should have taken. We should have been walking off that pitch with three points."

Garry Monk on Preston's winner in the fourth minute of added-time...

"It’s the classic sucker punch, last-minute counter attack. We ended up dealing with the counter attack, in that moment then with the corner and your individual battles, unfortunately we lost one of them and it cost us dearly, it cost us three points today. To walk off the pitch with nothing is a very harsh result to take to be honest with you."

Garry Monk on the message he gave to his players in the dressing room...

"They were down and shocked - but I said to them 'that was what was needed to be shown on Wednesday night and if you are ever going to lose a game, you lose a game performing like that’. You can accept it if you perform and get unfortunate. We were the best team on the pitch, we deserved three points and ended up with none."

Garry Monk on Ben Davies handball in the 90th minute and the persistent fouling of Ben Pearson after being booked in the 10th minute...

"Yes, I saw the handball. I don't want to talk about the referee's performance, if I'm honest.
"But I don't know how they haven't ended up with 10 men on the pitch. It's beyond me.
"I don't want players to be sent-off, I'm not here for that. But a player gets warned in the first-half (Pearson) for making so many tackles and he's on a yellow card, and he doesn't receive a second one in the second-half? It's just 'wow'. I guess that sums it up, doesn't it?"

Garry Monk on the performance of his starting eleven and Connor Mahoney...

"We looked stronger than them, going into the closing moments. The only change I made was from a physical perspective. Connor Mahoney had given everything. Otherwise they would have finished the game, they played very well. Connor is doing well, he is understanding of what is needed of him. And it was a really good performance from him - and the team."

Garry Monk's final reflections...

"Preston are a very good team. The run they have been on. We knew that. I have respect for the work Alex Neil is doing. But I am sure even he would admit we were the best team on the pitch today. We controlled them completely. I can't remember them having a meaningful shot on our goal. We weren't clinical enough and should have been out of sight, or comfortable, in a winning position. We weren't and that does leave you open. We wanted to show the fans - after what's been a difficult week for us - a response. The performance was the response, the result unfortunately wasn't. We have got a really honest group of people at this Club, including the fans. I said it from the very start, what they appreciate is commitment and fight and desire. You give everything you have got for that shirt and these players have done it more often than not. We are in a difficult moment. We didn't get what we deserved today. But that type of performance is what we are. We were much more where we needed to be."
