REACTION: Rotherham United 1 Blues 3

I am really proud of the players in what's been a really difficult season, it's been one of the toughest I've had as a manager.

Garry Monk

Garry Monk speaks to the press after today's win over Rotherham United...

Garry Monk on the problems in the first-half and changing to a diamond formation...

"I felt in the first-half we were losing all the second balls. That was giving them the momentum and putting them into a position where they were in our box. Obviously set-plays, long throws – that carried on and it just continued the pressure we were under.
We had to make a tactical change at half-time and I think that allowed us to get on top of them, on the second balls, and we gained the momentum. We knew we had the quality there, and there were glimpses in that first-half that they could be got at. We needed to do that more consistently and we did in the second-half. The players took to the change really well and we managed to dominate."

Garry Monk on the influence of Jacques Maghoma and Jota after the tactical change...

"Using that shape, we knew we’d be able to get those creative players in good positions and that proved to the case. We scored good goals at good times, that helped, and we kind of never let them get anything back at us. At 2-1 we controlled it really well, we saw the game out and the third came at the perfect time. A great reaction and response in that second-half."

Garry Monk on the the moves that created goals, notably Che Adams' pass to Jota...

"Decision-making, isn’t it? That’s something for us to get better at, moving forward. There have been times this season where we have got into really good positions but not made the right decision. The decision making that second-half was where it needed to be and we showed how clinical we can be too. Credit to the players. We knew it would be tough. Rotherham were fighting for their lives and we saw that in the first-half. The fact we came out second-half, got on top of the things we needed to do and produced the goals, it was the most important three points of our season."

Garry Monk on the performance and end result...

"They were really good goals and we looked a real danger when we got into those situations. We have been fighting to get us safe, that's what we have been fighting for since the nine-point deduction. I am really proud of the players in what's been a really difficult season, it's been one of the toughest I've had as a manager."

Garry Monk on securing Sky Bet Championship status...

"It’s what this Club has needed. This Club cannot be in a position where it’s fighting relegation on the last day, it’s done it too many times. I was part of last season’s when I came in. It’s great when you win it, but it’s not a situation you want to be in. We wanted to show that we could be better than that, to show progress and lay foundations this season. We’ve got a lot of work, we know our weaknesses and what we must get better at, but I think it’s been a huge effort to achieve what we’ve done, twice."

Garry Monk on Kerim Mrabti's performance as he netted his first goal for the Club...

"We recruited Kerim in January, and the bigger picture is for next season. The quality that he has, he’s had to get used to us and what we need from him and how to work with the players in the periods of games he’s been used. He’s a fantastic player, I am very pleased for him that he got his goal, he deserved that. I thought he was quality when he came on."

Garry Monk on the supporters...

"They’ve been with us every step of the way. We’ve had a huge amount to deal with this season and we could’ve easily got distracted, easily lost focus but we’ve kept it very much together. We’ve been unified; the fans, the players, the staff - everyone’s been on the same page."
