REACTION: West Ham 2 Blues 0

Given the tough period we have had and not having the luxury of making many changes, we are disappointed with the result but our attitude towards the game and the performance we put in was exactly what we wanted.

Garry Monk talks to the press following the Emirates FA Cup defeat to Premier League West Ham United...

Garry Monk on the performance...

"Yeah I think the players will take a lot from this game, playing a team from the league above, full of quality and away from home, as I said we wanted to compete, and I am really proud of the lads and we can't ask of anymore from them, we had our chances, especially in that first-half we had three clear cut chances, we had chances in the second-half too and on another day if we had taken those chances and been a bit more clinical, it could have possibly been a different result. Given the tough period we have had and not having the luxury of making many changes, we are disappointed with the result but our attitude towards the game and the performance we put in was exactly what we wanted."

Garry Monk on conceding early...

"It was a poor goal from our point of view, to concede in the manner we did early on wasn't ideal, but I thought after that we responded well, and we had chances in the first-half, second-half we really had a go at it right to the end, I'm proud of that performance, we wanted to give the fans something to shout about and I hope they are proud with the effort the lads put in."

Garry Monk on only making 1 change to his starting XI...

"We don't have the luxury of making many changes, the players we did have available were the ones involved, we only had 18 fit players to choose from. We've faced a huge task over the festive period given the size of our squad, but to come out of those five games in that period, with only one defeat which was against Premier League opposition, to come out of the last four games and put in the kind of the display they put in today just shows the effort and attitude of the players and shows the mindset of the Club."

Garry Monk on the absence of Jota...

"It was purely as a precaution, I feel a rest is what he needed to get back fully fresh, he had an injury lay-off then came back and had to play a lot of football in a short period. I would have liked to have done that with a few other lads but we don't have that luxury so the 18 that came were the 18 fit players we have in the squad, I thought they did themselves a credit today, to test themselves against a Premier League side and perform like that is huge credit to them."
