If the 20 goals he has been scoring are from inside the box, it’s very simple – keep him outside the box!

Pep Clotet says his side must be at their defensive best to prevent Brentford striker Ollie Watkins adding to his 20-goal tally when The Bees visit the St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium on Saturday.

The 24-year-old former Exeter City man has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season since being converted from a winger to a striker and is currently just a goal behind the league's leading scorer Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has 21.

Interestingly, all of 20 of Watkins' finishes have come from inside the area. with eight of them headers, four of them with his left foot and eight of them with his right.

"Ollie Watkins is dangerous in the box, the team suits him a lot as well because Brentford is a team that uses one-twos very well," said Blues' Head Coach Pep Clotet.

"They link up well – a little bit similar to when Dan Crowley and Fran Villalba were linking up.

"It allows one touch finishes; they are very difficult to defend.

"If the 20 goals he has been scoring are from inside the box, it’s very simple – keep him outside the box!"

Brentford as team have been scoring goals for fun this season with 53 from their 32 games, second only to current Championship leaders West Brom who have 57 and Clotet says it is important that Blues limit the space that Thomas Frank's side have, to do what they do best.

"They have a lot of confidence, Watkins drops a lot, leaving a lot of spaces and they are good on the link as well," he said

"It’s very important to make sure the space they have to do that is as limited as possible.

"The game is going to be decided around our full-backs, if we are successful in those defensive situations it will be good, but also give you the opportunity to win the ball back in an area you know can hurt them."
