Goals from Esme Morgan, Sam Mewis, and a brace from Chloe Kelly gave the home side all three points.
It could have been more but for some fantastic saves from Hannah Hampton, including a penalty stop to deny Caroline Weir in the second-half.
Despite conceding four goals, Ward was proud of the defensive display against one of the league’s top scorers.
Speaking to BCFC.com post-match, she said: “I thought defensively we were superb. I’m a bit disappointed with the last two goals because I think the second-half we defended well, we looked after each other, but we were up against world class opposition today.
“They’ve brought on two World Cup winners and we’ve got one fit player on the bench. We are worlds apart, but credit to Man City because they were exceptional.”
The focus now for Blues and Ward is on finishing as high as they possibly can, knowing that a win against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day could see them end the campaign as high as eighth.
Ward said: “I told them at the end, they will take more positives than negatives from that and we go into the last game now knowing that a win could potentially see us finish eighth.
“That’s got to be what we focus on now. There was a lot of heart, a lot of positives so I’m pleased.
“Credit to the players because they are the ones that have dug in. They’ve had adversity chucked at them left, right and centre this year but they have stayed focused, looked after each other and stayed together. One game to go and a possibility of finishing eighth.”
Ward was only able to make one substitution today due to injuries during the week, but the Head Coach is hopeful of having players back fit for the Spurs clash.
She explained: “We need it because having one fit player on the bench today is not great, hopefully, we will have one or two back.”
