Blues Women fell to a 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Esme Morgan, Sam Mewis and a brace from Chloe Kelly gave the hosts the victory.

Hannah Hampton put in fine performance, making several stops to deny the home team from adding to their lead, including a penalty save to deny Caroline Weir.

Team News:

Carla Ward made two changes to the side that drew Wednesday's Second City derby. Emily Murphy and Lucy Whipp came in for the injured Ruesha Littlejohn and Sarah Mayling.

Main Event:

Manchester City started brightly and Hampton was called into action inside the first minute, with the ‘keeper getting down well to push Kelly’s effort away from goal.

The forward, unfortunately, did not miss with her second chance. Weir’s initial effort was saved by Hampton, but Kelly reacted quickest to tap into an empty net.

Midway through the half, the hosts doubled their advantage. Lauren Hemp burst down the left-hand side and fired a cross into the middle where Kelly was waiting to guide in her second of the game.

Blues began to frustrate the hosts in the opening minutes of the second-half, with the Citizens failing to create any clear-cut openings.

Entering the final 20 minutes, the home side were awarded a penalty after Rebecca Holloway was adjudged to have fouled Kelly.

After a long delay Weir stepped up, but Hampton got down well to deny the Scottish midfielder from the spot.

Hampton was again called into action to deny the Scot, this time diving to her left to stop Gareth Taylor's players from adding another.

However, City got their third heading into the closing stages. A low corner was not fully dealt with and Morgan reacted to prod it in.

The home side rounded off the scoring with their fourth in injury time. American Mewis fired in from a corner.
